Self-care is one of my favorite things in the world, it makes me happier. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it all about comforting and pampering yourself. I want to share with you some of the reasons why I have incorporated self-care to different aspects of my life. I will also provide a few examples of self-care activities I engage in and how they help me.

Why Self-Care Matters

  1. Reduces Stress and Anxiety

Life brings a lot of stress and anxiety our way. Taking care of myself helps me unwind and relax at the end of the day. This improves my overall mental health by making my body feel calmer. I watch comfort tv shows at the end of a stressful day, paint, crochet or just more time to sleep. Personally, planning for the future reduces my stress levels. Just find out what activities reduce your stress or make you happy and roll with that.

  1. Improves Physical Health

There are self-care practices that improve my physical health. These include dancing, stretching and taking a walk. I dance like no one is watching because no one is. I dance till I am drenched in sweat because no one is watching, I just make sure to stay hydrated. When I started doing this consistently, I discovered that I stopped feeling drained all the time.

  1. Boosts Emotional Well-Being

Self-care activities boost my mood significantly. When my stress levels are reduced, there is a boost to my emotional wellbeing. I stay calmer, and things don’t affect me as much. I journal from time to time as a form of taking care of myself in order to get to the roots of things that are bothering me and most of the time, just writing it down helps me feel a little better.

  1. Enhances Productivity

Self-care sometimes is allowing my body to rest and giving my body time to recharge. This increases my productivity because I don’t go about my day feeling drained. When I am drained, I find it hard to function properly. Caring for my well being helps me stay focused, creative and helps prevent burnout.

  1. Promotes Better Relationships

When I prioritize self-care, I’m better able to show up for others. Taking care of myself first ensures that I have the energy and emotional capacity to support and care for the people around me. Healthy practices will lead to healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

Simple Self-Care Practices you can try

  1. Establish a Routine – Incorporate self-care into your daily routine. This could be as simple as setting aside 10 minutes each morning for meditation, journaling, or a quiet cup of tea.
  2. Stay Active – Physical activity is a crucial part of this process. Find an exercise routine that you enjoy, whether it’s running, dancing, or a daily walk.
  1. Practice Mindfulness – Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, can help you stay present and reduce stress.
  2. Nourish Your Body – Eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated are fundamental aspects of self-care. Make sure to nourish your body with healthy foods and plenty of water.
  3. Prioritize Sleep – Getting enough rest is vital for overall well-being. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night and establish a calming bedtime routine to ensure quality rest.
  4. Engage in Activities You Love – Make time for hobbies and activities that bring you joy. Whether it’s reading, painting, gardening, or spending time with loved ones, doing what you love is an essential part of self-care.

Conclusion

Self-care is a huge investment in myself. When doing my self-care, I have to put myself first. I cannot show up for others without being drained if I don’t learn to show up for myself. It generally improves the overall quality of life. Try to incorporate this into your life today.
